ORC Week 1: Is it a Boy or a Girl Nursery Design
I am so excited it is One Room Challenge time again! A big thanks to Linda at Calling it Home for hosting this fun event! The timing of the One Room Challenge seems to always come at the craziest times of the year for me. Last fall during the ORC we closed on our house, moved all our stuff to North Carolina, put our belongings in storage, and began the house hunting process there; all while working on a master bedroom for the ORC back in South Carolina! Every week I would burn up Interstate 85 making the trek up and down. It was the definition of crazy! Fast forward to the spring, and we had decided South Carolina was really where we should be and we closed on our new house back in SC about a week before the Spring ORC began. I said enough crazy, and I skipped the Spring Challenge and just lived vicariously through all the beautiful spaces online. It was a blessing in disguise because partially through the Spring ORC I found out I was pregnant! It will be no surprise to you that the space I have chosen for the Fall ORC is our very own nursery!
The room for the nursery is truly the definition of a blank slate! Since I found out I was pregnant such a short time after our move to the new house, we had literally done nothing to this space except for hanging some bamboo blinds and using it for storage . The house is new construction and this room is as basic as it gets. Cue the “boob” light from some big box store…
Although nothing had been done to this space, I already had my nursery inspiration in the form of fabric. If you follow me @gingerjarstyle on Instagram, you will have seen my sneak peak of the fabric from a few weeks ago. Let me first say, I have loved this fabric from the first time I saw it. It is exactly what I love for a nursery: full of happy color, pattern, and interest. Bonus: it really is gender neutral. I called finding this fabric my “Field of Dreams” moment. You know the “if you build it, they will come” kind of moment? I say that because I bought this fabric a year ago last summer. There it was in the fabric store speaking to me. We knew we were moving. We knew we wanted a baby. That was enough. I called up my husband and told him I was about to buy the most beautiful nursery fabric in the world. He said “oh, I didn’t know you were doing a nursery, who’s the client?” Long pause. Well, we are… he laughed and I bought the fabric!
So before I had my 20 week anatomy scan, I thought it would be a fun to design two versions of the room; a soft girly version, and a sweet little boy version, around my beloved Jungle Boogie fabric. Next week I will share which plan I am using, along with the wall color we went with and the companion fabrics! What’s your guess: boy or girl? Be sure to check back next week and check out all the other exciting plans for the Fall ORC here!
